Storm Damage Repair in Walton

Hail and high wind leave damage you often cannot see from the driveway: bruised shingles, broken seal strips, dented vents. We find it, photograph it, explain what it means for your home, then repair it with your landscaping covered and your household kept informed.

What Storm Damage Repair Covers

A storm rarely tears a roof off. More often it weakens it. Hail fractures the fiberglass mat under the granules, so a shingle looks fine today and starts leaking two winters later. Wind lifts shingle tabs and breaks the adhesive strip that holds them flat, and once that seal lets go, the next gust can crease or remove them.

Storm damage repair means finding that hidden damage, documenting it clearly, and restoring the roof so it sheds water the way it was built to. Sometimes the job is a few replacement shingles and a new boot around the plumbing vent. Other times the hits cover every slope, and putting the money into a roof replacement makes more sense than patching. Either way, you hear our reasoning and see the photos behind it before you decide.

Spring thunderstorms and summer hail are common across Northern Kentucky, so it pays to have the roof looked at soon after a hard storm rather than waiting for a ceiling stain.

What the Work Includes

  1. 01

    A slope-by-slope inspection

We check every slope, the ridge, valleys and flashing, plus the soft metals that show hail first: vents, gutters and downspouts. We also look in the attic for wet decking or daylight at nail holes.

  2. 02

    Photos you can keep

Each damaged area is photographed with a marker so you can see the size and spread of the hits. You get the full set, which also helps if you decide to file an insurance claim.

  3. 03

    Shingle and flashing repair

We replace fractured, creased and missing shingles, reseal or replace lifted tabs, and swap out cracked pipe boots and bent step flashing. New shingles are nailed to the manufacturer's pattern so they hold in the next wind.

  4. 04

    Decking and underlayment checks

Where shingles come off, we inspect the plywood or OSB underneath. Soft or delaminated decking is replaced before new underlayment goes down, because shingles nailed into weak wood will not stay put.

  5. 05

    Gutter and siding follow-up

Hail often dents gutters and cracks vinyl siding on the same day it hits the roof. We note that damage too, and can handle it through our gutters and siding services.

How to Tell Hail or Wind Reached Your Roof

  • Grit piled at the downspouts

After hail, check where the downspouts empty. A drift of dark, sandy grit there means impacts stripped the shingle surface, and those bare patches let sunlight break down the asphalt faster.

  • Dents on vents and gutters

Round dings in aluminum vents, gutters or the fins of your outdoor AC unit show the size of the hail. If metal dented, the shingles took the same hits.

  • Creased or flipped shingles

A horizontal line across a shingle tab means wind folded it back. The tab may lie flat again, but the crease has cracked the mat and the seal is gone.

  • Shingles in the yard

Pieces of shingle or ridge cap on the ground are an easy sign. Missing pieces expose nail heads and underlayment to direct rain.

  • New ceiling stains

A fresh brown ring overhead, or damp, matted insulation up in the attic, tells you water found a way through the roof. Water runs along rafters before it drips, so the stain may sit several feet from the actual opening.

How a Storm Repair Runs, Start to Finish

  1. 1

    Tell us about the storm

When you phone, mention roughly when the storm came through and what caught your eye since, such as grit at the downspouts, dinged metal or a drip. We book your free roof inspection and tell you who will be climbing your roof.

  2. 2

    Inspection and photos

We set ladders on pads away from flower beds and walk the roof. Afterward we sit down with you, go through the photos, and explain what is storm damage and what is ordinary wear.

  3. 3

    A written estimate

You get a free estimate listing each repair item. If you file a claim, we explain how the adjuster's visit usually goes and can share our photos, but the claim decisions stay between you and your insurer.

  4. 4

    Repair day

Tarps go over shrubs and along the foundation, and plywood protects the driveway where the dumpster or trailer sits. We tell you when hammering starts and if anything we uncover changes the plan.

  5. 5

    Cleanup and walk-through

We roll a magnet across the lawn and driveway for nails, clear the gutters of debris, and walk the finished work with you.

What Moves the Cost of a Storm Repair

Price follows the extent of the damage and the condition of the decking and underlayment we uncover once old shingles come up. Every item goes on the written estimate before we start. When a claim is approved, your policy coverage and deductible decide your share, and we walk you through how our line items compare with the adjuster's.

How widespread the damage is
A handful of wind-lifted shingles on one slope is a small job. Hail fractures across every slope can make replacement the more sensible repair.
Matching existing shingles
Older or discontinued shingle lines can be hard to match in color and profile. That can widen the repair area to a whole slope.
Decking condition
Wet or soft sheathing found once shingles are removed has to be replaced by the sheet before new material goes on.
Pitch and access
A steeper pitch means roof anchors, harnesses and slower footwork for the crew, so labor hours climb. Narrow side yards and dense plantings also add setup time for covering your landscaping.

Your Storm Repair Questions, Answered

Do I contact my insurer before or after a roofer looks at the damage?

A lot of people ask a roofer to look first, so they learn whether the storm actually did damage before starting a claim. Our photos show each problem and where it sits on the roof. Filing is up to you, and we explain the usual sequence whether you file or not.

Will you meet with my insurance adjuster?

If you would like, we can be on the roof when the adjuster visits and point out the damage we documented. We do not negotiate your claim or act as your adjuster. We explain the roofing side so the conversation is clearer.

Can a few damaged shingles just be replaced?

Often, yes. If the damage is limited and we can match your shingles, a targeted repair holds up well. If hits are spread across the roof or the shingles are brittle with age, we will tell you a repair may not last and show you why.

What happens if one of your storm repairs fails later?

Our company is licensed and insured for roofing work, and storm repairs carry a 10-year labor warranty. If our workmanship is the reason something fails in that time, we come back and make it right.

Is there anything I should do before you arrive?

Move cars out of the driveway and bring in patio furniture near the house if you can. Let us know about pets, gates or sprinkler heads. We handle covering plants and protecting the yard.
